Meet the face behind the posts
Hi there,
My name is Charlotte. Thanks for stopping by, it’s nice to meet you!
Before finally making it back to Australia, I have moved from Europe to Egypt at the beginning of 2021. This is when and where livelifesidewayz started, living next to a wakepark in a little hot and sandy village by the Red Sea. Moving to Egypt was a massive surprise for Dan (my boyfriend) and me as we were actually still waiting for Australia to let us in. As you might know Australia has shut its borders for more than two years. But in the meantime in September 2021, we've made it in. We’re now in Down Under living the dream in Melbourne. Big deal.
Why Melbs? Well, everyone deserves a good work life balance. I love wakeboarding and Melbourne has a decent cable park, and almost as importantly a Uni and PhD placement for Dan as well as loads of digital marketing opportunities for myself. Anyway, Melbourne Cablepark have two full cables and a whole lot of fun looking features. As a boardsports chick and from the minute I left this part of the world a few years ago I always wanted to come back to settle in beautiful Down Under.

What can you expect from my posts?
For now, my posts will be easy reads about life abroad, what’s amazing about living in the countries I am in – with a focus on Oz – things in daily life that might be challenging, fun and also inspiring. All from my point view of course. As I have been living as an expat (and backpacker) in several countries over more than 10 years now, I might spice things up with previous experiences and anecdotes. This site shall be something for everyone who is interested in living in other than their home country.
Or, if you also like boardsports, yoga and food, stay tuned! They’re my favs and I love spreading the word and sharing my passion. So, you might see some dreamy yoga spots I discovered here, videos of me trying new wakeboard tricks – you don’t wanna miss out on the progress and the faceplant shots! On top of that, I’m excited to write about local foods I encounter (wo/man, I love foooood!), dos and don'ts when living local, travel tips for the areas I’ve explored and really whatever comes into my mind I feel worth writing about.
Some of my living abroad stories might make you giggle, some maybe cringe. Some stories hopefully might be somewhat inspiring – I really hope so! Maybe you just feel like that Charlotte lady rocks (or maybe you think she sucks) and you’re curious about what she’s going to be up to next. To be fair, so am I.
A bit more about me:
In 2013, I had enough of my life as it was, I was looking for something more. So, I left for a six-month trip to New Zealand. Well, these six months turned into almost a decade of living and working abroad in Asia, Oceania and Europe. I always wanted to share and write about all the funny, silly and quirky experiences I made while I immersed myself in all these different cultures, not only because they might be a fun read, but also because I want to inspire and show how rewarding it can be for your mental and personal growth to pack your bags and go. I am so grateful for all my memories I was lucky enough to make during the last years and I feel so blessed for all the things that I have learned especially about myself and how much I feel I have grown personally.

That little inspirational bit aside, I said earlier that I love riding. I started off wakeboarding a few years back, found joy in paddling on my surfboard in the ocean, and I never ever have had enough of snowboarding since I was a teenager. I became a snowboard instructor a few years back, started following the snow for a few seasons and enjoyed all the riding time and fun that comes with the lifestyle of an all-year round snowboard instructor. However, these days working in digital marketing I am not so much chasing the snow anymore, but I am still after a steady ride wherever I live. Wherever I move to, I am looking for it to be either close to snowy mountains or near a cablepark to shred. Priorities. Live life sidewayz, hey!
